A mesmerising visit to Ladakh

 A mesmarising visit to Ladakh

We began our journey by flight to the place of dramatic landscapes , Ladakh. The view from flight was breath taking. It was just huge mountains covered with white snow everywhere which looked like cake pieces from the sky. On arriving we got ourselves prepped for the next set of adventure in the mountains of ladakh.

We started of by visiting the monastries and places in and around Ladakh. The best of these in my opinion was the Thiksey monastry. It was magestic with the most picturesque view ever.We even expirienced a passing by hail shower, to our luck it was short lived.

Then we continued our journey to the famous Pangong tso lake.It had a wonderful view with icy cold winds. Occasionally it was accompanied by rain , snow or hail. We spent the night at a homestay. During the stay I understood that many places are not yet developed and people have to struggle for even basic amenities. The homestay owners told us that electricity in the region was solely by solar power and would be available only from morning 8 to night 9. And water was directly fetched from natural resources. The most important part was that this was in summer. During winters the people in this region are forced to stay in other areas like Leh due to the extremely harsh climate. This place has no proper roads or transportation , hospitals , schools.

From here we moved on to the next stop - Khardung La pass. It is one of the world's highest mountain passes that is accessible to humans. It is located at a height of around18000ft. On the way up few officers checked our oxygen saturation , blood pressure and pulse then allowed us. After reaching we got down our car to see the view outside. It was extremely cold with fast chill winds blowing. All our hands and face turned into ice within seconds. We could feel the cold air in our nose and eyes turned watery. We wrote our names on the snow and clicked few pictures and got back to the car quickly.

Next we took rest for half a day, then we contuined our journey to the last northernmost inhabited village of india Turtuk. This route was pretty rough due to lack of proper roads. On reaching certain guides explained the use of binoculars for seeing the Jawans protecting at the borders. Our way back was also similar but it was completely worthwhile due to the panoramic and vibrant scenary of the place. The Shyok river added extra beauty to the place with its stream flowing through the barren, deserted cold region of Turtuk.

We then returned back to Leh and had a look at the markets of the place. We bought souvenirs and started our next adventure to kashmir.
